    Frequently asked questions

What is the best newsletter for blind and low vision readers?
Top Tech Tidbits is our top pick. It lands every Thursday with the week in access technology: screen reader and braille display releases, app changes, and company announcements, with links rather than long write-ups. Access Information News, from the same publisher, runs the same format on Mondays across a wider disability remit.
What is the difference between assistive technology newsletters and advocacy newsletters?
They answer two different questions. Top Tech Tidbits, AppleVis Newsletter, Double Tap Digest and AccessWorld tell you what the tools are doing: releases, bugs, reviews and prices. Braille Monitor, Dots and Dashes and ACB Braille Forum tell you what is happening to rights, funding and law. Most readers end up taking one of each rather than three of the same.
    Are these newsletters free?
Every newsletter on this page is free to receive. Top Tech Tidbits sells an optional Premium tier at $12 a year for a quarterly most-clicked compilation, and the weekly issue stays free either way. The NFB asks non-members to contribute $40 toward the print, braille and USB editions of Braille Monitor, but the email and online editions cost nothing.
Which of these are easy to read with a screen reader?
AppleVis Newsletter, Top Tech Tidbits and Access Information News are produced by and for screen reader users, and their emails are plain, heading-led link lists. ACB has publicly added headings to Dots and Dashes so you can jump between sections. Braille Monitor's email edition goes out through a plain announce-only mailing list. We have not audited every sender's HTML, so treat anything beyond that as unverified.
Which of these come from blindness organizations rather than publishers?
Most of them. Braille Monitor comes from the National Federation of the Blind, Dots and Dashes and ACB Braille Forum from the American Council of the Blind, AccessWorld from the American Foundation for the Blind, the ConnectCenter newsletter from the American Printing House for the Blind, and PerKIDS and Perkins Forward from Perkins School for the Blind. Top Tech Tidbits, Access Information News and Double Tap Digest are independent.
Can I subscribe to all of these by email?
Nine of the eleven have a public email signup you can complete yourself. Dots and Dashes and ACB Braille Forum are the exceptions: ACB emails both on request rather than through a self-serve form, so you contact ACB to be added.
What should parents of a blind child subscribe to?
PerKIDS, from Perkins Library, arrives monthly by email with reading and activity ideas for children and young adults. The APH ConnectCenter newsletter covers the practical side, with resources for families, job seekers and adults in one place. Both are free, and both have a signup form you can complete yourself.
Is there a newsletter that follows Apple and Android accessibility specifically?
AppleVis Newsletter is the Apple one: a monthly digest of App Directory entries, app updates and community discussion from blind, DeafBlind and low vision users. Double Tap Digest is broader, pairing the week's accessibility technology news with highlights from the Double Tap show, and covers Android and mainstream hardware alongside Apple.
How does Hark News turn these into audio?
You subscribe with your own Hark address, or forward from your mailbox, and the newsletters you chose become one daily briefing of about five minutes that you play like any other audio. Nothing is read out verbatim: each story is a short synthesis with a link back to the source, and lock screen controls and track skipping work the way they do for a podcast.
How does Hark rank these newsletters?
We opened every signup page listed here and confirmed the publisher, cadence and price against the live site before ranking. Ranking weighs how useful the email is week to week and how distinct it is from the others on the list. Subscriber counts inform the research and never decide the order.
How often is this list updated?
Hark re-checks this catalog every month: editors verify each newsletter is still publishing, confirm sign-up links work, and add or retire titles as the category changes. The “Last updated” date at the bottom of the page reflects the most recent verification pass.
