How we rank newsletters

Every ranking on Hark News, from the category directory to the career reading lists, is produced by the Hark News editorial team using the same process. This page is the reference for how a newsletter earns its place.

Verified against the source

Every newsletter we list is checked against its live signup page: who publishes it, how often it actually sends, and whether it is free, freemium, or paid. When a detail cannot be verified, we leave it out rather than guess. Audience figures, where shown, come from the newsletter’s own public subscriber counts and are treated as an input to our research, never as the ranking itself.

Ranked by hand, on usefulness

Rankings are set by editors, not by an algorithm and not by popularity. We weight editorial quality, sourcing, consistency, and how well a newsletter briefs a busy reader, because our product turns these newsletters into a short daily audio briefing, and a newsletter that cannot inform you quickly does not deserve a top slot. Plenty of enormous newsletters rank below smaller, sharper ones.

No paid placement

We do not sell positions, accept payment for inclusion, or take affiliate commissions from the newsletters we rank. Links go straight to each publisher’s own signup page.

Kept current

The catalog behind every page is a live database, re-verified on an ongoing basis: newsletters that stop publishing are removed, details are refreshed, and each page shows when its list was last updated. If you spot something out of date, tell us at scoop@hark.news and we will re-check it against the source.

Where these rankings live

The full directory is at the best newsletters in every category, and the role-based reading lists are at newsletters by career.
